Stucco is one of the most common exterior finishes in Central Alberta, and one of the most effective ways to give a tired building an entirely different look without touching its structure.

Repair before finish

Cracks in stucco are worth dealing with rather than painting over. They let water in, and water that gets behind a finish and then freezes is what turns a small crack into a large one over an Alberta winter. Repairs are made and left to cure before any finish coat goes on.

Painting existing stucco

Stucco can be painted, and it is a far cheaper way to change the colour of a building than refinishing it. It is a textured, absorbent surface, so it needs the right product and enough of it — which is exactly the sort of thing worth confirming on site rather than guessing at.

Timing

Like all exterior work in Central Alberta, stucco is a warm-season job: the materials need temperatures above roughly 10°C and dry conditions to cure properly.
